VIDEO: One man dead, one injured after shooting on Fifth Avenue North
Two black males were found shot on Fifth Avenue North this evening. Naples police officers responded to a call at 10:04 p.m. about shots fired in the area of Fifth Avenue North and Goodlette-Frank Road, said Michael Herman, Public Information Office for the Naples Police Department.

Physicians Regional adding 18-bed unit
Physicians Regional Medical Center-Pine Ridge is helping the economy and looking to the future. The 83-bed hospital in North Naples is spending $4.6 million to add an 18-bed neurosurgery unit, which includes equipment expenses. The price tag also includes converting four existing recovery beds to intensive-care purposes for the new neurosurgery department. The expansion will bring the hospital’s total bed count to 101 beds.

Maria Chapa knew something ailed her body. She felt pain in her breasts. One of her aunt’s died in February from breast cancer. Another aunt, in her 60s now, has battled it on and off for more than a dozen years. “I’m scared,” Chapa says sitting on a beige leather sofa dressed in a pink sweater and a white eyelet skirt. She’s headed to church with her husband, Isaac Hernandez, also dressed in a pink shirt.

Teen drivers at risk: Report calls for higher age requirement
Jessica Morehead is in a hurry as she fills her tank at the Amerifuel gas station on U.S. 41, just south of Corkscrew Road in Estero. She is running late for an athletic event at South Fort Myers High School. “I am involved in five sports at one time,” says the Estero High senior. “I definitely need to drive.” Morehead has been driving for two years, but if a national auto safety group has its way, many teens will have to rely on their parents to handle a busy schedule like hers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently released a report calling on states to increase the driving age from 16 to 17.
