The last two decades were the warmest on record, and it's a worthwhile use of the federal government's resources to try to find out definitively why.
Congress is contemplating a climate-change bill with great potential to distort the economy, and it would be useful to have a government agency that can serve up dispassionate facts and analysis so the lawmakers have some idea of what they're doing.
The Obama administration is proposing to set up within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration -- which in turn is part of the Department of Commerce -- a new Climate Service to collect and analyze the vast amount of climatic data being gathered here and abroad. It will be, promises the administration, a one-stop shop for climate information.
The Climate Service needs approval by a number of congressional committees. If the George W. Bush administration had created the service, the suspicion would have been that it was to give a veneer of science to the administration's distaste for environmental regulation. And surely some will say that the Obama administration wants similar cover for a greenhouse-gas bill with a cap-and-trade program for polluters.
Congress' role in this is to see that the service has the safeguards -- transparency, peer reviews, oversight -- to stay clear of the kind of controversies that have called into question the competency and scientific impartiality of much climate research. You do not have to be an alarmist to worry about the long-term consequences of climate change for agriculture, fisheries, low-lying coastal cities, power generation and public health. A professional, nonpartisan, monitoring and research agency is an important step toward getting this problem right.

CO2 Climate Criminals: Fraud Charges Coming
This is just downright criminal considering the smoking icebergs of truth from climate gate so there can only be one reason to continue threatening my children with this CO2 mistake. So you want a new agency? To replace the IPCC with another money sucking pile of this modern day witch burning called climate change, formerly known as climate variation.
I want charges of treason laid against all who took us to this false WMD like enviro war against a nonexistent enemy. I want charges laid against academics, lab-coat consultants, pandering politicians promising to lower the seas with taxes, lazy and criminal copy and paste news editors, PR firms and most of all, lazy teachers that scare my kids when they threaten them with their constant SAVE THE PLANET childishness.
It’s all for not because while this promise of death by CO2 has been making predictions for 24 years, promising death (catastrophic climate crisis) was climate change’s downfall. Promising death is an all-in bet and it can’t be covered for another 24 years in public support because we the voters decide science policy and how it will be affecting society, not the “scientists”.
Prepare for a massive anti-“CO2 fear monger” backlash that will make anyone supporting this mass insanity look like the last fella ever, to show up to the party still in disco duds.
Federal charges will be laid for sure at some point.
