Supreme Court/New York Times misuse their power

Another week brings two more ghastly examples of powerful institutions wielding their immense power irresponsibly.

First the New York Times - the nation's most influential newspaper - disclosed the name of a former U.S. government employee who had interrogated al Qaeda terrorists. The man and his lawyer both requested that the NY Times not publish his name, as they were concerned that his family's safety would be jeopardized. The Times published it anyway.

Then the Supreme Court ruled that states cannot impose the death penalty on child rapists. The majority opinion, written by Justice Anthony Kennedy, basically said that criminals who rape children are not so heinous or morally depraved to deserve execution.

These pathetic decisions are completely and utterly out of touch with mainstream thought and common sense. It is scary and sad that the Supreme Court and the New York Times have so much power yet they don't have a clue on how to use it.
